He then taught for two years at Pennsylvania State\nUniversity, before returning to New York, where he began a successful career in\nthe advertising departments of \u003ci\u003eTime, Look\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eMcCall's\u003c\/i\u003e magazines.\nIt was during this time that he had the idea for \u003ci\u003eCatch-22\u003c\/i\u003e. Working\non the novel in spare moments and evenings at home, it took him eight years to\ncomplete and was first published in 1961. His second novel, \u003ci\u003eSomething\nHappened\u003c\/i\u003e was published in 1974, \u003ci\u003eGood As Gold\u003c\/i\u003e in 1979\nand \u003ci\u003eClosing Time\u003c\/i\u003e in 1994.
